Daviess County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was founded in 1815 and named in honor of Major Joseph Hamilton Daveiss. Major Daveiss was a prominent lawyer, and he served as the U.S. Attorney for Kentucky before being killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. He is better known for successfully prosecuting former U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr in a high-profile conspiracy trial.

The county has a rich history that traces roots back to indigenous cultures and early European settlers in the region. The city of Owensboro, established in 1817, serves as the county seat of Daviess County and soon became a thriving industrial and agricultural hub in the region. With its strategic location on the Ohio River, the county benefited from riverboat commerce, promoting the growth of the local tobacco, whiskey, coal, and other industries. Owensboro was once known as the "Wagons on the Ohio" for its vibrant wagon-making industry.

A fun fact about Daviess County is that it boasts the world's largest sassafras tree, which is estimated to be over 300 years old. The magnificent tree stands 60 feet tall with a trunk circumference of 21 feet and is located in Owensboro, affectionately known as "The City of Trees." This charming natural landmark highlights the region's beauty and offers a glimpse into the rich history of Daviess County, Kentucky.
