Anoka County, located in the great state of Minnesota, was established on May 23, 1857. Named after the Dakota word "anka," meaning "on both sides," the county encompasses an area on both sides of the Rum River. With 21 cities, it ranks as the fourth most populous county in Minnesota, covering an area of 446 square miles.

Anoka County is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan region and has a rich history. The area was originally inhabited by the Dakota Sioux and Ojibwa tribes before European settlers arrived during the 19th century. Fur traders from Europe made contact with the Native Americans in the 1600s and 1700s. Anoka County was later formed from portions of Ramsey and Benton Counties.

Its county seat, the city of Anoka, is regarded as the "Halloween Capital of the World." This fun fact stems from its early celebration of Halloween in 1920, making it one of the first cities in the United States to hold a citywide Halloween celebration. Every year, the city of Anoka hosts numerous Halloween-themed events that attract visitors from all over the country.

Today, the Anoka County area boasts a mix of urban and suburban communities, offering various recreational facilities, parks, and trails. The county's economic growth and development have played an essential role in shaping the Twin Cities metropolitan area throughout its history.
