Cole County, located in the central region of the great state of Missouri, was established on November 16, 1820, and named in honor of Captain Stephen Cole, a pioneer settler and veteran of the War of 1812. The county's seat and primary city, Jefferson City, was named after founding father and third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson City also serves as the state capital of Missouri.

In the early 19th century, the Cole County region began to see an influx of settlers due to the Louisiana Purchase, an acquisition of land from France by the United States that doubled the size of the country, and the Osage Treaty of 1808, which saw the Native American Osage tribe cede their Missouri and Arkansas territories.

Agriculture has played a significant role in the growth and development of Cole County, with its fertile soil providing ideal conditions for cash crops, including hemp, tobacco, and corn. The arrival of the Missouri Pacific Railroad and the establishment of several educational institutions further contributed to the county's economic prosperity.

Fun Fact: Cole County hosts the annual Salute to America festival, a multi-day event held in Jefferson City that celebrates American pride and history. The festival includes live entertainment, parades, food, and spectacular fireworks.
