Brunswick County, North Carolina

Brunswick County is located in the southeastern part of North Carolina and is part of the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area. Established in 1764, the county was named after the historic region of Brunswick in Germany, with which the British royal family had ties. The area had been settled by Europeans as early as the 17th century and was primarily inhabited by Woodland and Cape Fear Native American tribes before the arrival of the Europeans.
During its early years, Brunswick County thrived on agriculture, primarily growing rice and indigo. The region's strategic position near the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean allowed it to prosper in maritime trade and transportation. The Brunswick Town Historic District, located on the west bank of the Cape Fear River, features archaeological remains and historic structures that showcase the region's long history.
One fun fact about Brunswick County is that it's home to the famous "Green Swamp," a sprawling 17,000-acre wetland filled with an array of rare and endangered plant species. This swamp is one of the only places in the world where you can find the Venus flytrap, an insectivorous plant native to the region. Additionally, Brunswick County is well-known for its beautiful beaches, including Oak Island, Holden Beach, and Sunset Beach, attracting numerous tourists each year for recreation and relaxation.
