Caswell County is located in the north-central part of North Carolina, near the Virginia border. Established in 1777, the county was named in honor of Richard Caswell, the first governor of the state. Caswell County has a rich history tracing back to the pre-revolutionary era, with some of the earliest European settlers arriving in the area in the 1740s.

During the American Revolutionary War, many Patriots supported the cause of American independence in Caswell County. In fact, a skirmish called the "Battle of the House in the Horseshoe" took place on the Dan River in northern Caswell County in 1781, between Patriot militia and Loyalists led by David Fanning.

The county seat, Yanceyville, was initially called Caswell Court House and was later renamed in honor of Bartholomew Figures Yancey, a prominent local figure and member of Congress. Yanceyville is home to the historic Caswell County Courthouse, a unique building designed by William Percival in the 1800s with a notable Italianate architecture style.

Caswell County played an essential role in tobacco cultivation in the 1800s and early 1900s, establishing the area's agricultural prominence. Over time, the county's economy diversified, but agriculture remains a driving industry in the region.

Fun Fact: Caswell County is home to the "Bright Leaf Hoedown," an annual event held in Yanceyville celebrating the county's rich agricultural heritage and tobacco farming. The festival includes live entertainment, food vendors, and various family-friendly activities, making it a popular event for both residents and visitors alike.
