Duplin County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of North Carolina. It was established on April 7, 1750, and formed from parts of New Hanover County. Initially, it was part of a larger area called Duplin Precinct that was founded in 1739. The county was named in honor of Sir Thomas Hays, the alias Lord Dupplin, a British nobleman and Member of Parliament.

Covering an area of approximately 819 square miles, Duplin County has a rich historical heritage. The county seat is Kenansville, which was established in 1818 and named after James Kenan, an influential leader in the region. Throughout its history, Duplin County has played important roles in various industries, including agriculture, livestock, and, more recently, wine production.

A fun fact about Duplin County is that it is home to the oldest winery in North Carolina, Duplin Winery. Established in 1975, Duplin Winery is known for its award-winning Muscadine wines, a grape variety native to the southeastern United States. The winery has played an essential role in driving the wine industry's growth and the popularity of Muscadine wines throughout the region.
