Surry County, situated in the great state of North Carolina, was established in 1771. It was formed from parts of Rowan County, which was one of the original 13 counties of North Carolina. Located in the northwestern part of the state, Surry County is bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Yadkin River to the east.

The early settlers of Surry County were primarily of English, Scots-Irish, and German descent, seeking a new life in the American colonies. The county played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War, with the Battle of Shallow Ford taking place in present-day Yadkin County (originally part of Surry County) in 1780.

Throughout the 19th century, Surry County was a primarily agricultural area, with tobacco and textiles becoming key industries. The construction of the railroad in the late 1800s helped boost the county's economy by facilitating trade and connecting the region with other parts of the state and country.

One fun fact about Surry County is that it is known for its rich musical heritage. The area has been influential in the development of both old-time and bluegrass music, with legendary musicians like Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham, and Benton Flippen hailing from the region. Mount Airy, the largest city in Surry County, is also considered the inspiration for the fictional town of Mayberry in the classic TV show "The Andy Griffith Show," as Griffith was born and raised there.
