Kidder County is located in the central part of the great state of North Dakota, USA. Established on March 9, 1873, by the Dakota Territorial Legislature, the county was named in honor of Jefferson P. Kidder, an attorney, and jurist. Kidder County was finally organized on March 22, 1881. Its county seat is the city of Steele.
In the 19th century, the main economic activity in Kidder County was agriculture, with wheat being the primary crop. The county still retains its agricultural heritage, with farming and ranching playing a significant role in the local economy. The development of Kidder County was greatly influenced by the expansion of the Northern Pacific Railway in the late 19th century, which connected the area to East Coast markets and other Midwestern states.
