Clinton County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Ohio. Established on February 19, 1810, the county was named in honor of George Clinton, a prominent statesman and the fourth Vice President of the United States under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The county seat is Wilmington, which became the county seat in 1828, replacing the former county seat of New Burlington.

The history of Clinton County is deeply rooted in the Native American community, specifically the Adena culture. Later, the area was predominantly occupied by the Miami and Shawnee tribes, who relinquished their claims to the land in various treaties throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries. European settlement began soon after, with the arrival of the first American settlers in 1798.

Agriculture has always played a significant role in Clinton County's economy. Over time, the area has adapted to modern industries, with establishments like the Wilmington Air Park and the Robert's Center serving as major employers.

A fun fact about Clinton County is that it is home to the Cowan Lake State Park, which spans over 700 acres and includes a beautiful 700-acre lake. The park offers various recreational activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor lovers.
