Montgomery County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Ohio, with its county seat and largest city being Dayton. Established on May 1, 1803, the county was named after Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general who was killed in 1775 during the failed invasion of Quebec.

The region's history dates back to Native American settlements, namely the Adena and Hopewell cultures. In the late 18th century, the Treaty of Greenville (1795) opened up the area for European-American settlers. Montgomery County was organized as part of the Northwest Territory, and it played a significant role in Ohio's path to statehood.

Dayton became a focal point for innovation and industry during the 19th and 20th centuries. The city was home to prominent inventors and entrepreneurs, such as the Wright brothers, who famously developed the world's first powered aircraft. Additionally, Dayton was home to numerous manufacturing companies, including National Cash Register Company (NCR) and General Motors.

One fun fact about Montgomery County is that it is home to the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world. The museum houses numerous exhibits and over 360 aircraft, which chronicle the history of aviation and space travel, and offers a unique experience for both locals and visitors alike.
