Bristol, Tennessee is a city located in Sullivan County in the eastern region of the state of Tennessee. It is best known for its close association with its neighbor, Bristol, Virginia, with which it shares a downtown area and a state line. The city is located at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is home to the Bristol Motor Speedway, one of the most popular NASCAR venues in the country. The city has a rich history in country music and is known as the "Birthplace of Country Music", as the famous "Bristol Sessions" recording sessions took place here in 1927.
