Blount County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Tennessee and was established on July 11, 1795. The county was named in honor of William Blount, an American statesman, and signer of the United States Constitution. William Blount served as Governor of the Southwest Territory and as a United States Senator from Tennessee.

The area that is now known as Blount County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Cherokee. Euro-American settlers began to move into the region in the mid-18th century, and the Treaty of Holston in 1791 opened the door to increased settlement in the area. As a result, Blount County was created from parts of Knox County and Indian lands.

Blount County played a significant role during the American Civil War, with both Union and Confederate troops passing through its territory. The county was primarily pro-Union, and several key engagements took place in and around the area, including the Battle of Fort Sanders in Knoxville.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, established in 1934, is partially located within Blount County, making it an important area for tourism and outdoor recreation. The park is the most visited national park in the United States, attracting millions of visitors each year for its stunning mountain vistas, diverse wildlife, and numerous hiking trails.

A fun fact about Blount County is that it is home to the famous Cades Cove, a highly visited site situated in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cades Cove is an isolated valley rich in both natural beauty and history, featuring numerous well-preserved historic structures, such as log cabins and churches, dating back to the 19th century. It is also a popular destination for wildlife viewing, as black bears, deer, and other animals are frequently seen in the area.
