1. Clarksville was established in 1785, and it is the fifth oldest city in Tennessee.

2. The city is named after General George Rogers Clark, an American Revolutionary War hero who served as the older brother of William Clark, of the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition.

3. During the Civil War, Clarksville was used as a strategic location for the Union Army to control the Cumberland River, and as such, it was the site of several battles, including the Battle of Clarksville.
