Roane County is located in the great state of Tennessee, United States. It was established in 1801 and named in honor of Archibald Roane, the second Governor of Tennessee who served from 1801 to 1803. The county is situated in the eastern part of the state, encompassing an area of 395 square miles, and its county seat is Kingston.

Roane County's rich history can be traced back to the early settlement period when European settlers arrived in the region. The Cherokee Native American tribes originally inhabited the area. The Treaty of Holston in 1791 brought peace to the region by serving as a boundary between the Cherokee and the settlers, thus paving the way for the formation of Roane County.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Roane County experienced economic growth and a rise in population due to the presence of abundant natural resources such as coal, timber, and limestone. The Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) construction of the Watts Bar Dam during the 1940s and its subsequent reservoir greatly impacted the region, providing flood control and hydroelectric power.

One fun fact about Roane County is that it was the temporary capital of Tennessee for one day back in 1807. This happened when the Cherokee Nation ceded the land on which the current state capital, Nashville, is located. The legislature met in Kingston as a symbolic gesture to declare the new land as part of Tennessee before relocating the capital to Knoxville and later Nashville.
