Erath County is located in the great state of Texas and was founded in 1856. Named after George Bernard Erath, a soldier and a surveyor who helped lay out the land for settlers in the region, Erath County played an important role in Texas' history.

In its early days, the county's economy was primarily based on agriculture, with cotton being a major cash crop. Livestock and dairy farming were also significant industries. The development of the county was boosted by the arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1881, which connected several towns and allowed for easier transport of goods and people.

Stephenville, the county seat, was founded in 1854 by John M. Stephen, who donated land to establish the town. Over time, Stephenville became the educational and commercial center of the county, and it still serves as a regional hub for higher education, business, and healthcare.

Erath County is home to Tarleton State University, founded in 1899 as a private preparatory school and later evolved into a significant institution within the Texas A&M University System. The university is well-known for its agricultural programs, a testament to the county's agricultural roots.

One fun fact about Erath County is that it is often referred to as the "Cowboy Capital of the World" due to its rich western heritage and a high concentration of world-class rodeo athletes, trainers, and breeders. Each year, rodeos and various western events attract thousands of visitors to the county, adding to its fame as a center of cowboy culture.
