1. Alderton, Washington was the site of a historic train robbery in 1867 when a gang of six robbers made off with over $3,500 in gold coins after holding up the train at gunpoint.

2. The robbers were never caught and the gold coins were never recovered, making this one of the most famous unsolved robberies in the United States.

3. The robbery was reported in newspaper articles at the time and has been memorialized in a song written by local folk singer Arlo Guthrie.

4. In 2011, a monument was erected in Alderton to commemorate the robbery and pay tribute to those who experienced it.

5. In 2016 a plaque was unveiled to remember the victims of the robbery and to honor their courage and resilience.
