1. The DuPont area was initially inhabited by the Nisqually Indians who lived in the area for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Euro-American settlers in the early 19th century.

2. In 1851, the Hudson's Bay Company opened a trading post near the Nisqually River, which would later become the city of DuPont.

3. The town of DuPont was officially incorporated in 1912 and named after the French immigrant Francis DuPont who homesteaded in the area in 1852.

4. The Washington State Legislature officially established the city of DuPont in 1914 and appointed George C. Talbot as its first mayor.

5. During World War II, a large portion of the town was taken over by the US Navy to construct a naval ammunition depot which was active until 1975.

6. In 1951, DuPont became home to the first drive-in theater in the Pacific Northwest, known as the DuPont Drive-In Theater.

7. The city of DuPont is now home to a number of major employers such as the Weyerhaeuser Company and Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
