1. The first ever National Forests in the United States were established in the area around Summit, Washington in 1891.

2. In July of 1900, a large forest fire swept through the town of Summit, destroying hundreds of acres of timberland in the surrounding area.

3. In 1911, the Great Northern Railroad extended its lines to Summit, which helped open up the region to more development.

4. In 1914, the first hydro-electric power plant in the Pacific Northwest was built near Summit.

5. During World War II, the US Army constructed a fighter-training base in Summit to prepare pilots for battle.

6. In 1959, Summit was home to the world's first ski lift installed on a mountain slope.

7. In 1967, the first ever Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was established near Summit, Washington.
