Stokes County is located in the northern part of North Carolina and was formed in 1789 from Surry County. Named after John Stokes, a captain in the American Revolutionary War, the county is steeped in historical significance.

During the Revolutionary War, the area was home to many skirmishes between the Tories and Patriots. In the mid-19th century, the county became particularly well-known for its tobacco production, which continued to thrive up until the early 20th century. Along with agriculture, milling and textile industries also played an essential role in Stokes County's development.

Stokes County's geographical features, such as the Sauratown Mountains and the Dan River, make it a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful trails, parks, and recreational opportunities.

One fun fact about this region of the USA is that it is home to the unique Hanging Rock State Park. The park, created in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, offers over 20 miles of hiking trails, taking visitors past stunning rock formations, waterfalls, and a lake for various recreational activities. The iconic Hanging Rock, named for its distinctive appearance, is a must-visit landmark within the park, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
