1. Hackberry, Texas is located in the southeastern corner of Newton County, and is one of the oldest settlements in the county.

2. The town was originally known as "Hackberry Grove" when it was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Georgia.

3. The town was named after the hackberry trees that grew in abundance in the area.

4. The first post office in Hackberry was established in 1856.

5. In the early 1900s, Hackberry had a population of around 500 people and was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a cotton gin, and a sawmill.

6. In the 1930s, Hackberry was home to one of the first oil wells in Newton County.

7. The town is still home to a few businesses today, including a convenience store and a gas station.

8. Hackberry is also home to an annual festival called "Hackberry Days," which celebrates the town's history and culture with music, food, and activities for all ages.
