1. Port Townsend was established in 1851 and is the county seat of Jefferson County, Washington.
2. Port Townsend is known as the "Victorian Seaport" due to its many Victorian-style buildings.
3. The city is home to the Northwest Maritime Center, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to maritime heritage and education.
4. In 1889, Port Townsend was designated as a U.S. Customs Port of Entry, making it the only such port in Washington State at the time.
5. Port Townsend was briefly the terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad when it reached town in 1888, but due to the financial problems of the railroad, the line was never completed to Tacoma as originally planned.
