A fun and verifiable fact about Eastpointe is that it used to be called "Halfway", due to it being halfway between downtown Detroit and downtown Mount Clemens. The name was changed to Eastpointe in 1992 to reflect its location as a "gateway" to the eastern suburbs of Detroit.
