Historical Event:
The 1967 Newark Riots were a series of civil disturbances that took place in Newark, New Jersey from July 12-17, 1967. The riots were sparked by police brutality and racial tensions between African Americans and the predominantly white police force. The riots resulted in 26 deaths, over 700 injuries, and more than 1,500 arrests. The riots also caused millions of dollars in property damage. The events of the riots led to increased civil rights activism in the city of Newark and helped to shape the modern history of the city.
