Virginia, Minnesota is known as the "Queen City of the North" and its name was inspired by the city of Virginia in the state of Nevada, which was a mining boomtown at the time of Virginia, Minnesota's founding. In the early 20th century, Virginia, Minnesota was a booming center for the iron mining industry, and at one point, was the largest city on the Minnesota Iron Range. Today, Virginia is the home of several cultural and recreational centers, including the Olcott Park Greenhouse and Rose Garden and the Laurentian Arts and Cultural Alliance.
