A fun and verifiable fact about Lockport, New York is that it is home to the "Flight of Five", an engineering marvel consisting of five original 19th-century Erie Canal locks. The locks raise boats 49 feet from the lower level of the canal to the upper level in just a quarter-mile stretch. It is the only place in the world where you can see this unique configuration of historic locks still functioning as it did over a century ago.
