- Talmage is an unincorporated village located just outside of Ukiah, the county seat of Mendocino County.
- The village was named after the Talmage family, who were early settlers in the area.
- The Talmage State Asylum for the Insane was built in the late 1800s and was the largest employer in the area for many years. It is now the Talmage Mental Health Facility operated by the California Department of State Hospitals.
- The village is home to the Golden Rule Community Credit Union, which was established in 1951 and originally served the Golden Rule Furniture Company employees.
- The Talmage Post Office has been in operation since 1923 and serves residents of the village and surrounding areas.
- The Talmage Fire Department was founded in 1949 and provides fire protection and emergency services to the village and nearby areas.
- Agriculture is a major industry in the area, with vineyards, orchards, and other crops being grown in the fertile valley surrounding Talmage.
