One significant historical event that took place in Pueblo, Colorado is the famous "Pueblo Flood" of 1921. On June 3, 1921, a violent storm hit the region and caused the Arkansas River to flood. The resulting floodwater rose quickly and swept through the city of Pueblo, killing over 100 people and causing millions of dollars of damage. The flood destroyed over 1500 homes and businesses. The Pueblo Flood remains one of the deadliest natural disasters in Colorado history, and the community continued to rebuild for years afterward. The city now has a Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, which showcases aircraft and also has exhibits about the flood.
