A fun fact about Evansville, Indiana is that it is home to the first casino in the state. In 1995, the riverboat casino named Casino Aztar opened its doors to the public. Another historical event that occurred near Evansville is the Battle of Tippecanoe. It was fought on November 7, 1811, between forces led by future president William Henry Harrison and a confederation of Native American tribes led by Tecumseh's brother, the Shawnee Prophet. The battle took place near present-day Lafayette, Indiana, which is about 150 miles north of Evansville. It marked a significant moment in the struggle between the United States and Native American people for land and power in the region.
