One historical event that took place around Greensboro, North Carolina is the Greensboro sit-ins. In 1960, four African American college students from North Carolina A&T State University staged a sit-in at a Woolworth's lunch counter in downtown Greensboro to protest against racial segregation. The sit-in sparked a wave of similar protests throughout the country, and played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement. The original Woolworth's building now houses the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, which serves as a reminder of the sit-ins and the struggle for equality.
