Red Oak is a small unincorporated community located in Nash County, North Carolina. It has a population of around 4,100 people and is part of the Rocky Mount Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after the red oak trees that once covered the area. It is a mostly residential community with some small businesses and industries. The nearby Nash Community College provides higher education opportunities for residents. The town is also known for being the birthplace of the famous NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt.
